Proto Academy

Proto Academy is a simple idea:

Fort Atkinson is full of people with good ideas — but most community members don’t have a clear path to turn those ideas into real projects. Proto Academy exists to change that.

We’re building a public, open-access space where anyone can:

• explore local initiatives

• learn how to start or support a project

• connect with others who want to make Fort Atkinson stronger

• access tools, templates, and guides for community-led action

Proto Academy is not a business, not a political group, and not tied to any single organization.

It’s a prototype learning hub designed to help residents experiment, collaborate, and build things that matter.

 What We Do

Proto Academy focuses on three core functions:

1. Surface Local Issues & Opportunities

We highlight topics that affect Fort Atkinson — from land use to youth engagement to downtown revitalization — and present them in a clear, accessible way.

2. Provide Tools for Action

Each initiative page includes:

• background information

• community perspectives

• practical steps for getting involved

• starter guides for launching a project

• examples of what similar communities have done

3. Support Community-Led Projects

Anyone can propose an idea.
Anyone can start something small.
Proto Academy helps you figure out how.

 Why “Proto”?

Because everything starts as a prototype.

A prototype:

• doesn’t need to be perfect

• doesn’t need permission

• doesn’t require a committee

• just needs a first step

Proto Academy is a place where first steps are encouraged, supported, and celebrated.

Solar Farms & Land Stewardship

Fort Atkinson is seeing rapid growth in solar development. Many residents support renewable energy but are concerned about aesthetics, land use, and long-term impact.

This initiative explores alternatives such as community-backed land leases, local ownership models, and landscape-integrated design.

How to Get Involved

You don’t need experience.
You don’t need a title.
You don’t need to “join” anything.

You can:
